Decimal numbers (Decimals) are special fractions which have denominators of 10, 100, 1000 or any powers of ten.

Convert 0.8 to a fraction.
0.8 has only one decimal place, therefore the denominator of the fraction should be ten.

Let's convert 0.34 to a fraction.
0.34 has two decimal places, therefore the denominator of the fraction should be   hundred.

 

Let's convert 0.083 to a fraction.
0.083 has three decimal places, therefore the denominator of the fraction should be a thousand.



Let's convert 6.4 to a fraction.

Examples

1. Change 0.045 to a fraction.

Step1. Check the number of decimal places.
           There are three decimal places in the above problem.

Step2. Place the number/s after the decimal point over 1000. (because there are three decimal   
           places.)

Step3. Simplify the fraction where possible.

 

 

 

2.  Change 8.04 to a fraction.

Step1. Check the number of decimal places.
           There are two decimal places in this problem.

Step2. Place the number/s after the decimal point over 100. (because there are two decimal   
           places.)

Step3. Simplify the fraction where possible.
